The lyre as a stringed bowed instrument is present throughout the Balkan peninsula. In Greece, the most widespread versions of the pear-shaped lyre are those found in Crete and the Dodecanese, while two lyres that are found in mainland-northern Greece and more specifically in the regions of the east remain unknown to the general public.
Macedonia and Thrace. In the presentation we will meet the lyre players Alexios Partinoudis originally from Evros and Alexandros Papoutsis from Monastiraki in Drama who will analyze in the first part the repertoire, construction and social historical context of each lyre. The second part will be followed by a concert with purposes and songs from Drama and Thrace with Konstantinos Georgiadis on the percussion instruments of each region.
