Kelly Thomas and Mayu Shviro met at the Labyrinth Music Workshop in Crete and have been collaborating since 2016. Together they will present a program of Kelly Thomas’ contemporary tropical compositions with cello and lyre, influenced by various musical traditions of the world with a strong element of improvisation and a creative approach to old sounds. This duet is characterized by both its virtuosity and its musicality with the two bows intertwining in a magical dance of melodies and rhythms.

Mayu Shviro (cello)Born in Israel with origins in Japan and Iraq, she began her studies of the cello at the age of 6. At 18, she discovered tropical music and decided to immerse herself in this genre out of admiration for its power and beauty. Thus began her musical journey with her cello in the Arab, Turkish and Azerbaijani traditions.Today she plays and records with various musical groups and gives concerts both in Israel and abroad.In the summer of 2018 she was a member of the tropical music orchestra MITOS of the Labyrinth Music Workshop.

Kelly Thomas (lyra) was born in Piraeus.In 1995 she began studying the lyra with Ross Daly as her teacher. Since 1998 she has been traveling with him and his band "Labyrinth" to cities in Europe, Asia, America and Australia. Through this experience she has collaborated with renowned musicians from various traditions around the world, which has contributed significantly to the formation of the unique sound that characterizes her playing. He has collaborated with very important names of the world scene of traditional music such as Trio Chemirani, Zohar Fresco, Pedram Khavar Zamini, Efren Lopez, Dhruba Ghosh, Ballake Sissoko, Mayu Shviro, and many others.Since 2008 he has collaborated with the Tokso string quartet based in Norway.He has published three personal albums, Anamkhara (2009), 7Fish (2014) and "Ama kopason oi kairoui" (2018) which have received excellent reviews from international magazines and music producers.Among others, he has appeared with Ross Daly in important theaters and festivals such as: Theatre de la Ville, Carnegie Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Berliner Philarmoniker, Thessaloniki Concert Hall, Athens Concert Hall and many others.
