ART IS IN THE BEGINNING!
From the beginning of human history, art accompanied man in all kinds of creations that his mind created, with all kinds of materials, and apart from man's need for expression, it was used as a means of communication, but also for therapeutic reasons.
Visual arts were first formally used as a method of therapy shortly before World War II, when a group of artists and psychiatrists in the US and England began to show interest in a more therapeutic use of visual arts. Later this form of therapy took the term Art Therapy.
ART HAS NO AGE!
This is exactly! Every form of art can take shape and form, from a very young child to a very old man! Everyone regardless of age can create and express themselves!
Art therapy can therefore be applied to very young children but also to adults and the elderly!
WHAT IS ART THERAPY?
Art Therapy is a form of therapy that uses the creative process through art to improve a person's physical condition as well as their mental and emotional well-being. It encourages people to express and understand their feelings through artistic expression and through the creative process. Uses art materials, such as paints, chalks, clay, etc. , with the ultimate goal of creating artistic works that help people experiment, express themselves, and do an introspection on their emotions and on their whole psychology.
The best thing about the Art Therapy method is that you do NOT need to have a talent for painting or any other form of art! You just need to be yourself!
Art Therapy is essentially the use and creation of art in order to increase awareness of self and others. This in turn can aid personal development, increase adaptive capacities, and enhance one's mental functions. It is based on theories of personality, human development, psychology, and art education. Art therapists are trained in both art and psychotherapy!
ART THERAPY AND CHILDREN
Creative development through art enables the child to become freer, stronger internally and externally, creative, in control of his sense of self. It refers to the way it develops and evolves through artistic experiences.
Helping a child in his emotional development may mean that you offer him, show him, talk to him, teach him... The visual therapist is present with respect for the child's right to have his own space. With sensitivity and acceptance of the uniqueness of his emotional life, he gives him the opportunity to gain personal control and freedom, within the framework of this space, creating the child his works.
With the symbolic way of creation, children can really let go and express strong feelings with free painting movements, while at the same time keeping control of their impulses, recognizing that they are not destructive or even disruptive as they thought. They may symbolically relive past experiences, experiment and practice for the future, learn more and be responsible. In this way they become familiar with the experience that caused them fear and are now able to develop freely.
And as we all know, children love Art and especially painting!
At the Thirathen Museum we organize Art therapy classes every Thursday evening!
Every week we work on a piece of art (Sculpture, video art, dance, painting) and try to evolve through it! Then we discuss it, get inspired, and become better!!
We accept all types of children because we want them to teach us and teach us something new!
See you at the Museum!
